The owner and president of Paragon Surgical Inc., Walter Krause, learned the art of instrument manufacturing and repair from his father Heinz Krause. Walter worked at the family business in the summers during high school, and also during college. During his time there, Walter learned how quality instruments were manufactured and sold. What he did not know at the time, was how the instruments were used.
Keen on understanding and improving his craft, Walter spent a great deal of time watching procedures, asking questions, observing surgeries, and gathering knowledge. Not only did he learn how the instruments were used, but also what the doctor’s and surgeon’s preferences in instrumentation were. He quickly noticed a disconnect between what was produced, and what the doctor’s preferences and needs were. He would often receive requests for esoteric and custom instruments that the family business could not fill.
With his father’s blessing, Walter incorporated Paragon Surgical in 1984. Fluent in German, it was easy to communicate his needs to German engineers and designers, who then produced high quality surgical and dental instruments to Walter’s specifications. Doctors and surgeons quickly realized that the Paragon brand offered them the quality, customization, and functionality they had been missing. When the Paragon brand became known and was in higher demand, Walter began producing his own line of hand instruments to satisfy a growing clientele of professionals who expected and deserved something better in their instrumentation.
Today, Paragon produces instruments for some of the most demanding and particular doctors, dentists, oral & periodontal surgeons, and hygienists in the field. The Paragon team of craftsmen focus on high quality uniform instrumentation, utilizing fine American stainless steel. The goal is to build instruments that hold an edge longer and are durable enough for years of use.
The Paragon name is well respected, and we intend to keep it that way.
